Positions:
June 2018 to Present Postdoctoral Research Scientist at UCD
June 2018 National Postdoctoral Fellow at Center for Biotechnology, Anna University, Chennai, India
April 2017 Ph. D student at CAS in Crystallography and Biophysics, University of Madras, Chennai, India
May 2009 M.Sc Bioinformatics, University of Madras, Chennai, India
May 2007 B.Sc Biochemistry, Pondicherry University, Pondicherry, India
Malathy did her B.S in Biochemistry from Pondicherry University and M.S in Bioinformatics from University of Madras. She then obtained her Ph.D under the supervision of Prof. Gunasekaran Krishnasamy, CAS in Crystallography and Biophysics, University of Madras. Her PhD work mainly focused on Structural and functional characterization of a Serpin from the tubers of Alocasia macrorrhiza and molecular docking studies on Kinases of infectious targets.
She has excellent background in multiple biological disciplines including biochemistry, Enzymology, Bioinformatics, molecular biology, and X-ray Crystallography.
As a postdoctoral researcher at UCD, she continue to build her skills in the field of structural biology by determining the 3D structures of glycosyltransferases which are ubiquitous in nature and essential for the transfer of sugar moiety to various biomolecules.
Her long term research interests involve a comprehensive understanding of the structure, function and mechanism of key enzymes involved in human disease.
